Strange choices by Arquette included his countless drunken encounters with other celebrities, his weird stunt with playing with puppets outside a club, and his decision to become a wrestler. After about three years of being split, the pair decided to divorce. After trying to work things out, they both were citing irreconcilable differences. Without any lawyers present, they each signed the divorce documents. Despite the fact that they had no prenup, the split was very amicable between them. Without any monetary settlements, a Los Angles court judge approved of the divorce. Since they didn’t have a prenup, it was strange that the split was quite easy. However, they did have some kind of agreement on some marital assets such as Coquette Productions, the business they owned, and their daughter Coco.

Usually, splitting can become even more confusing without a prenup at the time of divorce. Prenups help in dividing assets between the couple. And without one, all of the assets have to be split no matter what under the law. Even though the actual settlements for their marriage are unknown, there was no mention of a court battle between them. The only thing that was mutually expressed in the settlement was that both parties wanted the joint custody of their daughter, Coco.

After the duo got a peaceful divorce, they went on to have an even better relationship. It seemed that they were able to become best friends once they were no longer married. Besides that, they also started with new relationships. Arquette got married to Christina McLarty in 2015 and Cox started a relationship with Johnny McDaid.

In an interview, Cox said that she wants Arquette to be happy even if it is not with her. At the time of her parent’s divorce, Coco was eight. In an interview with the Guardian in January 2021, the ‘Scream’ actor was asked that to whom he would like to say sorry and why. To which David Arquette replied that he owns an apology to his daughter Coco. James Michael Tyler’s Life Before FRIENDS

Tyler was the youngest of five children in his family. He lost both his parents by the time he was 11 years old. Later, he graduated from T.L. Hanna High School in 1980, Anderson College in 1982, and Clemson University in 1984. Interestingly, he was a member of a student theatre group, the Clemson Players, during his time at Clemson University. This was the beginning of his acting career. From the University of Georgia in 1987, he received his Master of Fine Arts degree. After that, there was no turning back.

He moved to Los Angeles in 1988 and became an assistant film editor and production assistant. If you don’t know, he production assisted the film “Fat man and little boy”. He also worked at the Bourgeois Pig and Guitar Center in Los Angeles. Besides that, he actively supported AIDS Project Los Angeles, and the Lili Claire Foundation charities. In 1992, he landed his first credited role in a short film “The Roommate” where he played the character of Bar Patron.

After that in 1994, Tyler got the role of his life in FRIENDS. He played the iconic role of Gunther on the sitcom FRIENDS from 1994-2004. Gunther was a coffee shop worker at Central Perk who had a huge crush on Rachel Green, played by Jennifer Aniston. With his appearances in 148 episodes from the total of 236 episodes, he became the show’s most-frequently-appearing recurring character actor.

How Tyler Landed On FRIENDS Role

When you will hear the story of how Tyler ended up on the show, his role on FRIENDS will seem particularly serendipitous. Let’s know this story in his own words.

In an interview with Buzzfeed, the actor said, “I had a job at a coffee shop called The Bourgeois Pig in Hollywood.” He further continued, “It is still around and one of the last independent coffee shops that haven’t been taken over or whatnot.” While talking, he recalled, “I was one of their first baristas — I think I started there in 1990 or so.” Tyler explained that he worked with the assistant director, Joel Wang earlier. He called Tyler and asked if he would want to come on and be in the background in a coffee shop.

Tyler recalled Wang’s exact words and said, “I would love you to just stand by the espresso machine and pretend like you’re actually really working it, just so it would look authentic.” Even though Tyler expected that this gig will last only for a couple of episodes, he found himself standing by the espresso machine for a decade. Jokingly, Tyler revealed that the expresso machine was not even plugged in and he never made a single coffee there.

After giving a memorable performance in FRIENDS, Tyler appeared in the sitcom “Episodes” as himself. He appeared in season 2 episode 6 as an Ice Hockey Coach. Besides that, he appeared in many series such as “Iron Chef America: Battle of the Masters”, “Keeping up with the Downs”, and “Modern Music”. He also got featured in films like “Foreign Correspondents”, “Jason’s Big Problem”, “Processing”, and “The Gesture and The Word”. In addition to his other works, Tyler narrated and hosted the 2005 game “Friends: The One with All the Trivia”. Not just that, he also a music video in 2007 titled “Come Tomorrow”.

Beyond FRIENDS, Tyler’s acting credits stretch back to 1992. This includes several series such as “Modern Music”, “Scrubs”, and Sabrina The Teenage Witch”. While undergoing treatment for his prostate cancer, Tyler continued performing and starred in two short films as well. Those short films were “Processing” and “The Gesture and the Word”. He received awards at several domestic and international film festivals for best actor for his amazing work on these short films.

Later in 2021, Tyler gave a spoken word performance of Stephan Kalinich’s poem “If You Knew”. To help raise awareness for the Prostate Cancer Foundation, his performance was adapted into a short video. The new video for “If You Knew” was produced to honor Tyler. Interestingly, 100% of Tyler’s original recording and the streaming proceeds of the video are being donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

Gleason played the character of nurse Sizemore and made us laugh hard. Due to cancer, she left the world in June 2020 at the age of 70.

3) Joel Beeson – Tadd, The Hombre Man

At the beginning of the second season, Joey worked in a department store where he just have to get customers to let him “spray” perfume on them. Later, he ends up meeting the Hombre Man, his new co-worker. Joey felt threatened by him because he curiously managed to spray perfume on more customers as a comparison to Joey. That tall and charming Hombre Man was none other than Joel Beeson. Sadly, the actors left us too soon at the age of 51 in October 2017.

4) Taylor Negron – Allesandro

When Monica was chasing her dream of being a chef, she had a brief career as a restaurant reviewer for Chelsea Reporter as well. At that time, she wrote a negative review of Allesandro’s, an Italian gastronomy place. After that, the owner of the restaurant started chasing her everywhere to change her opinion. Not just that, the character even visits her at her apartment. The character of that maniac restaurant owner was played by Taylor Negron. Unfortunately, he left us at the young age of 57 after struggling with liver cancer.

Audra Lindley also left her mark on the series despite having appeared in just one episode of the show. In the ninth episode of the second season “The One With Phoebe’s Dad”, it was shown that she was Phoebe’s grandmother, Frances. Ron Leibman portrayed the character of Dr. Leonard Green, Rachel’s father who was always a very authoritative man. Throughout the series, he appeared at very punctual moments such as Rachel’s birthday, his dinner with Ross and Rachel, and then with Phoebe and Rachel. Even though the situations were quite complicated with him in the series, he will always be remembered as Rachel’s father. Unfortunately, he passed away in December 2019, aged 82.

10) Robin Williams – Thomas

Robin Williams was a comedian who did a remarkable job in the world of series and stand-ups. The actor starred in the film “One Day, Two Parents” with Billy Crystal and became good friends. They also did a cameo in FRIENDS together in the third season and episode 24 “The One with the Ultimate Fighting Champion”. In the cameo, Williams played the character of Thomas who cries over his wife’s estrangement. And after a while, Billy Crystal who played the character of Tim, confesses that he is the one who is sleeping with Thomas’s wife. Despite having been on the series for only a few minutes, they still stole the show. Unfortunately, that amazing actor left us in August 2014.

In all 10 seasons of FRIENDS, James Michael Tyler portrayed the character of Gunther, a neglected Central Perk barista. Unfortunately, after a battle with prostate cancer, he died at the age of 59. His longtime friend and manager, Toni Benson confirmed that Tyler died at his home in Los Angeles Sunday morning. Benson described him as someone who loved Clemson Tigers and the live music. He wrote a tribute for Tyler and sent it to The Hollywood Reporter. He wrote, “If you met him once, you made a friend for life.”

FRIENDS co-creators David Crane and Marta Kauffman also paid tribute to the actor. They said in a joint statement, “James was a genuinely kind, sweet man. When he started as an extra on FRIENDS, his unique spirit caught our eye.” They further wrote, “And we knew we had to make him a character. He made Gunther’s unrequited love incredibly relatable.” They expressed their sorrow by saying, “Our heart goes out to his wife, Jennifer Carno.”

The producer of the show, Kevin Bright also shared the news on Twitter and expressed his sorrow. He tweeted, “James Michael Tyler Our Gunther passed away last night. He was an incredible person who spent his final days helping others. God bless you, James, Gunther lives forever.”

James Michael Tyler’s Life

Tyler had appeared briefly in 1990s series such as “Sabrina” and “Just Shoot Me!”. After that, he got cast as a background character in FRIENDS in 1994. He became the most frequently recurring guest star over the show’s multi-year run. In the series, he played Gunther, the Central Perk barista who has a major crush on Rachel (Jennifer Aniston). According to the book, “Generation Friends: An Inside Look at the Show That Defined a Television Era”, he didn’t have a line of dialogue on FRIENDS till his 33rd appearance on the show. Tyler made appearances on Scrubs once FRIENDS concluded in 2004 and he played himself on an episode of Matt LeBlanc’s “Episodes” as well.

Tyler starred in two short films after being diagnosed with cancer. To help raise awareness for the Prostate Cancer Foundation, he gave an amazing performance of the Stephan Kalinich poem “If You Knew”. Some other scenes that broke the stereotype were when Ben plays with Barbie dolls, Monica considered sperm bank to have a baby, and Ben having two moms. These are some other scenes that tried to change the thought process of the entire society.

Through this classic show, female friendships too received the limelight they deserve. There are various instances in the show which prove that women do not need men to have fun. When it comes to the favorite scene that showed the strong friendship among the female cast, then it is none other than the one where they sit and drink beer in wedding gowns. In a society where it is believed that women can only be bitchy about each other, they really gave women some major friendship goals. The other scene that showed the strong bond between the female cast is when Rachel and her childhood friend, Mindy gang up on Barry to confront him for his cheating habit. Unfortunately, Mindy still got married to Barry. But, it really showed that Rachel was there to support her when Mindy needed her the most. In the changing world, women are supporting each other instead of talking behind their backs. They love each other and also got each other’s back. FRIENDS showed this dynamic beautifully and surely succeeded in changing a little bit of perception for the world.

3) Different Kinds Of Motherhood

From surrogacy, adoption, and single motherhood, FRIENDS shows that every form of becoming a mother is respectful, no matter what you choose. Phoebe becomes the surrogate mother to her brother’s triplets. Without any assistance from a man, she takes care of herself without complaining about it.
