NBC’s hit sitcom and the audience’s one of the most favorite shows, FRIENDS was first aired in 1994. It starred Matthew Perry as Chandler, Courteney Cox as Monica, Jennifer Aniston as Rachel, David Schwimmer as Ross, Matt LeBlanc as Joey, and Lisa Kudrow as Phoebe. It has been over one and a half-decade since the show ended, yet the fans of the show keep on increasing.
With so much success and popularity, the show got nominated in huge amounts for prestigious awards. It also bagged some of the most popular awards that any show will be proud to win. You might not be so surprised to know that during its 10-season run, FRIENDS earned a huge 62 Emmy nominations while winning six. It includes the Outstanding Comedy Series in 2002 for “The One Where Rachel Had Her Baby” in the eighth season. In 2002, the show picked up its only Best Comedy Series win. However, every other member of the core cast was nominated at some point, aside from Courteney Cox.
Many fans probably think that the six main cast members were nominated for every season of the show, but because they were competing not only with each other but also with actors from other shows that wasn’t exactly the case. The writers, the cast, all the other super-talented crew members of the show made audiences cry, laugh, drink coffee, and use a bundle of hand gestures and catchphrases regularly still years later. The six main characters have all gone on to star in, direct, and produce other great TV shows and got Emmy nominations between them.
The NBC series also was regularly nominated in the “Outstanding Guest Actor/Actress in a Comedy Series” category because of its roster of top-notch guest stars with Christina Applegate and Bruce Willis won in 2003 and 2000, respectively. In 1995, even the theme song got a nomination for the “Best Main Title Theme” with Allee Willis (lyricist) and Michael Skloff (composer).
